But who will ever take the time to evaluate the way external time unfairly governs a sea of individuals, each with a specifically, and differently, tuned internal clock? The breadth of content is a weakness at times, as the complexity of the concepts presented varies significantly from chapter to chapter — some chapters are an intense read. Overall, this is a fascinating account of the biology that controls our waking lives, inhernal we realise it or not. Additionally, individuals who are blind tend to have later chronotypes, because their eyes don’t get exposed to sunlight.
Is it just me? Fascinating new information such as that some people make their melatonin in the day time and so should sleep in the day time which is NOT accepted by our society overall.
It’s pleasant This is a very interesting book about sleep. Among species, we humans are to time what Polish villagers have long been to place: It’s worth a read, and I’m not denying that I’ve managed to learn interesting things from it, but it still feels somewhat off.
It is interesting to note, we can’t initially fall asleep at the time we get the best sleep of the night. And they ingernal always out of synch. Living at odds with our internal timepieces, Till Roenneberg shows, can make us chronically sleep deprived and more likel Early birds and night owls are born, not made. Surprised, he let the experiment run for a while.
This biography of a living person relies too much on references to primary sources. I’ve been roenneerg to read it for a long while now, but always had something else to read, so my anticipation grew larger and larger without realizing.
I gave it one star since zero doesn’t seem to be an option. I applaud the author’s attempt to make the book more interesting with case studies, but the case studies just aren’t that interesting. In plants, the clock can be roennebsrg in leaves, stems, or roots. Great article on the book: It seems to me this would be a perfect natural laboratory to study endogenous sleep re I could hardly write a better review than this one, which sent me to Amazon Kindle to buy a copy: Some work better when they raise early and some work better when they raise late larks and owls.

I was a little disappointed with this book in that it had such potential. This so-called “chronotype” is largely regulated by the circadian clock. Also, the author is not a native English speaker but writes in English, and so there are a lot of hilarious bits where people do things like complain about the kids these days spending their time at the disco.
Being forced to constantly work during hours your body expects to sleep creates social jet lag, a chronic version of the jet lag you experience when flying through multiple time zones. I listened to an audio version of this book and found myself zoning out. Glad to be done with this. I will certainly return to some of the chapters to try and deepen my understanding of a fascinating subject that is highly relevant in today’s hectic world.
When I heard about this book, it seemed only logical that I would give it a try; after all, the question “Why am I always so tired” has surely passed all of our heads a few times in our lifetime. But what exactly is happening? Fun stories facilitate the education of why we each have a different “inner clock”. The factory worker’s chronotype shifted later than his twin, who continued to get lots of sun exposure.
