Please try again later. For the actual content. I have two parts for this review. The content of the book is pretty good. For the actual content, the book is pretty good. The mathematics aren’t exhaustive, more of a “here’s the results of a long complicated proof, and here’s how you should use these results in your projects”. This book would be a good follow on to an Emag and Signals and Systems course. Overall technical content is good and the mathematics are enough to get the point across but not bog down the reader.

The bad part about this book is the construction quality. I bought this book in December for a Spring Semester class and its now the beginning of April and the main cover has completely separated from the binding of the book pictures attached. I wouldn’t say I’ve put this book through a ton of abuse, the edges are all still very well intact, but the binding has just disintegrated. Possibly it’s just a lemon in the batch and others will last longer, but definitely something to watch out for.

If not for the construction quality I would give this book a Usually I don’t write superlative reviews, but I wonder how can an engineer simply not fall in love with this book.

Despite its apparent simplicity, the author clearly spared no efforts in making the subject at hand extremely clear to understand, especially for a hurried reader. Second, the book introduces conciseness and discipline in discussing basic terminology that is often presented in a confusing manner such as defining various types of impedance, replacing the “thinking” around ground with one based on return paths.

This book is simply how all the engineering books need to be written. That said, be aware that the book has a very practical focus by distilling the subject into various tips, rules and guidelines that can be applied later on. It is certainly not a theoretical treatise, and you’ll search in vain classical EM stuff like deriving the telegrapher’s equations from Maxwell’s or solving them.

The author magically walks around the theoretical stuff, by being able to give very simple and intuitive explanations to potentially complex subjects like time analysis of transmission lines. If you really want to understand the theory, you need to complement this book with “deeper” books such as Brian Young’s book Digital Signal Integrity: But if you are new to the subject, or if you want a book which provides usually quick answers to the SI problems at hand, I would definitely start with this book.

It’s hard to find flaws into the book, and can provide only subjects could be expanded in a third edition. If the author is listening, I would also expected more details on stuff like: Professor Eric Bogatin took on the subject of signal integrity and “simplified” it.

I use the word “simplified” loosely because he does not dumb down the subject, but rather, presents the subject in a very logical and understandable way. He does not bog down the subject in heavy mathematics or complex physics.

He backs his commentary with pictures of measurements taken. Most importantly, he puts things in “real world” engineering perspective. Professor Eric Bogatin also provides a website to help educate the engineering community on this topic bethesignal.

He believes and rightfully so that all designers will have to deal with SI in the very near future, if not currently. So, if you are looking for a place to start in the world of high speed design and signal integrity, I recommend this book.

Signal and Power Integrity is the de facto bible for anyone who is aspiring to be a good SI Engineer. Eric is a great teacher and his books are simple yet impactful in teaching high speed digital design concepts.

Having come from a big research school I hated how the professor mandated text book were usually sub par. If this was my college text book I would read the off out of it! I have read many books on Signal and Power Integrity. Most of them either delve too deep into theory or just give rules of thumb.

This book has the best of both worlds. It gives you enough theory to understand all the issues relating to Signal and Power Integrity. It also gives you lots of design guidelines and rules of thumb with sifnal explanation. It even has an extensive list of all those theoretical and applied rules at the end of the book. It simplifier equally good ssimplified beneficial for both beginners and experienced engineers.
