Medium-sized to large deciduous tree. Bark greyish-brown, flaking, leaving pale patches. Leaves paripinnate with pairs of sub opposite leaflets.

Although not rare yet in Mozambique, this tree is very sought-after for its hardwood and unfortunately the most common way to come across large specimens these days is piled up high on the back of lorries on their way to Beira.
